Biography

I am a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, practising in the West Kent and Sussex region with NHS and private clinics at Maidstone, Dartford and Tunbridge Wells, as well as at my base hospital in East Grinstead.  I specialise in breast surgery, both cosmetic and reconstructive, and facial cosmetic surgery and the management of skin malignancies.  I am a senior member of the Regional Plastic Surgery Centre at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead made famous in the War by the work of Sir Archibald McIndoe.

Facial Surgery

My training in the famous Canniesburn Unit in Glasgow has prepared me for work in the area of facial surgery, both cosmetic and reconstructive.  I undertake the full range of rejuvenative procedures, managing the eyelids, nose and face with surgical and non-surgical techniques.  I work closely with both ENT and oculoplastic colleagues in the management of complex problems, both when they arise from reconstruction after cancer or trauma, and where secondary cosmetic surgery demands difficult solutions.  I have experience in face and browlift surgery, giving the judgement born of experience in the assessment of these cases.

As a longstanding member of the staff at the NHS training centre at the Queen Victoria Hospital, I have taught many surgeons in techniques of facial cosmetics and reconstruction, some of which have become colleagues when they have joined me as consultants in their own right.

Breast Surgery

Surgery for augmentation, uplift or reduction of the breast demands the highest levels of experience and competence.  I have been dealing with these problems over my twenty years of practice and can offer a depth of experience gained in that time.  I have seen trends and fashions come and go during that time and am well placed to offer considered judgements, tailored to the specific needs of each of my patients as an individual.

The reconstructive patients pose different problems and both the younger ones with congenital problems, including asymmetries, and the older patients following treatment for cancers require careful, sensitive and competent management.  I work closely with several oncological breast surgeons as an integral member of the cancer management team.

Body Surgery

In more recent years, with the rise in the demand for surgery managing the sequeli of obesity, I have become more involved in body contour procedures, especially those following bariatric surgery, e.g. gastric banding.  Patients requiring abdominoplasty have always been a feature in my practice but they have been joined by those requiring management of loose skin about the arms, legs and buttocks as well as a steady demand for liposuction to reduce and contour specific body areas.

PIP IMPLANT PROBLEM

As you will know from the news coverage, these implants have recently been shown to have been made with faulty silicone.  For patients who had these implants as part of their breast augmentation surgery, we are offering management of the issue by way of removal of the prostheses, refashioning of the pockets and replacement.  Where the patients were originally operated upon under my care, this facility is being offered as a complimentary service between myself and the clinic concerned.  Where they were done at other centres, the clinic and I are offering reduced rates for the procedure to help alleviate the anxiety that many patients feel at having been abandoned by their primary operators.
